About Samphos Chhoem

Born in the countryside of Takeo Cambodia to a family of devout Buddhists, the principles of Buddhism are woven into the fabric of Samphos’ daily life. At the age of 15, he chose to become a monk. He served as a novice monk in Cambodia for 6 years, then at age 21, he was fully ordained a monk in Thailand where he practiced for 5 years. He left the monkhood on Oct 19, 2008 to support his family. He began working with Ken Ballard in January 2009.

Samphos serves as Ken’s personal and group assistant for travel excursions. He brings a beautiful, soft strength, huge sense of humor, and wide open heart to our travels. He speaks fluent Thai and Cambodian, in addition to improving his English and basic Indonesian. He is an accomplished photographer, diver, and an accomplished Thai chef.  On selected Ken Ballard Journey’s, travelers have the good fortune to partake of his culinary delights. Samphos is an avid sports lover, diving, playing basketball, golf, and soccer.
